Camps
Thank you for your interest in our Summer Camp!
Fun and adventure awaits campers at Stable Hands with an opportunity to build self-esteem, self-awareness and self-discovery in a wonderful indoor and outdoor environment. Our camps are designed to accommodate children and teens ages 8-17. We have equines of various sizes. No horse experience is necessary. All sessions are guided by two highly trained facilitators in equine assisted learning that have years of horsemanship experience. They carefully match campers with an appropriate horse.
Each camp offers the opportunity to:
- Make new friends
- Enjoy both mounted and unmounted horse activities that help campers learn riding skills and horse care knowledge, in a FUN and interactive environment. Please note: We may not be able to accommodate mounted classes due to equine weight limitations, health or availability along with acts of nature or other extenuating circumstances.
- Engage in various arts and crafts activities
- Get physical exercise
- Play games to keep engaged and have a blast with other campers
Weight Limitations for All Mounted Participants
Decisions regarding participation will be based on the availability of a suitable horse related to the height, weight, cognition and balance of the participant. The maximum weight for participants cannot exceed 160 pounds. Each horse has individual weight limitations based upon the horses’ weight, age and physical condition. Not all horses can manage the maximum weight limit. The weight limit may be lowered as determined by available equines and the ability of staff and volunteers to safely support the participant at the time services are requested. Stable Hands staff will evaluate the participant’s weight and physical abilities to determine if riding is a safe and appropriate activity based on available equine, staff and volunteers. Weights are checked at the start of camp using the Stable Hands scales with participant wearing the appropriate riding gear.
Alternative activities will be arranged for non-riders.
Camp Sessions
Snacks, beverages and materials are provided. (Please inform us of any allergies or medication your child may be taking.)
Safety is our top priority at Stable Hands. For all horse programs, we require that participants wear smooth soled shoes or boots with heels, long pants and protective ASTM/SEI helmets (helmets are provided by camp, but campers may bring their own).
Our horse camp is a recreational riding program and is not intended to replace formal riding lessons.
Alternative programs may be planned if weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, rain, or wind jeopardize the safety of campers or horses.
Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before camp start time and pick up not later than 15 minutes after camp end time.
