Volunteer Ranch Hand

I started volunteering in 2012. My husband had come out with a work volunteer group. He knew I had always loved horses and suggested I visit. I got hooked right away when I learned about their classes.

I had no prior experience with horses, so I started out as a side walker. Eventually, I was asked if I wanted to try horse leading. I got trained and am now a horse leader. Over the years, my husband and I helped out with farm work as needed and eventually became regular ranch hands.

I enjoy making therapy dog visits with our plott hound, Luna, hiking, biking, kayaking, reading, knitting, and traveling.

It’s hard to pick a favorite class or activity. Each class brings its own memory-making moments. Seeing a participant’s smile and enthusiasm makes the day. Volunteer get-togethers, like pizza night, are always fun!
